Minister of Tourism, Nabeela Tunis has discouraged sand mining at Bureh Beach during an inspection visit.

The minister spoke against sand mining after the inspection of The World Bank’s Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLEDP) construction site on Friday, September 20.

Minister Tunis informed the gathering that sand mining at Bureh Beach has the potential to hamper development and the scaling down of tourists that visit the beach every year.

Bureh Beach is considered as one of the top destinations for tourists in the country.

She also encouraged the community people to work together and take decisive action against sand miners in the village. Tunis also informed the locals of the importance of the beach to the country including one of the hosting sites for the Budapest-Bamako Rally held every year.

She ended by commending the community for their positive relationship with her ministry while calling on contractors to expedite and produce standard work.
