On November 20, 2024, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA), in collaboration with its partners, held a panel discussion on “Wildlife Conservation and Communities” as part of the ongoing Tourism for All Campaign.
The event, aimed at addressing challenges in environmental conservation and eco-tourism, brought together representatives from the National Tourist Board, Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and Conservation Society Sierra Leone.
Panelists explored solutions to barriers hindering wildlife conservation, focusing on community benefits and the growth of sustainable eco-tourism in Sierra Leone. They proposed actionable strategies and a roadmap to promote sustainable environmental practices.
Permanent Secretary Edward Kwame Yankson emphasized the importance of involving government, partners, and community stakeholders to protect wildlife and the environment.
Director of Tourism Mohamed Jalloh highlighted the benefits of environmental preservation and urged communities to avoid destructive practices.
The event, chaired by NTB’s Product Development Officer Bashiru Koroma and moderated by Senior Tourist Officer Tamba S. Bundor, marked a critical step in advancing wildlife conservation and eco-tourism development in Sierra Leone.
