The Pademba Road Court No. 1 has committed 28-year-old trader, Alie Kamara, to stand trial at the High Court following allegations that he was caught with a quantity of suspected kush.

Kamara’s committal came after Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah ruled that the prosecution had presented enough evidence to warrant a full trial.

Testifying for the state, Assistant Superintendent of Police Joseph Stevens, a forensic analyst with the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), told the court that his laboratory had tested 80 wraps of dried leaves submitted by investigators. The substance, weighing 60.4 grams, was confirmed through both chemical and microscopic analysis to be cannabis sativa.

The forensic report, tendered in court as Exhibit E1–2, was signed and dated July 9, 2024. Stevens further explained that the tests had been conducted in the presence of the accused, who declined to cross-examine him when offered the opportunity.

Prosecutor A.B.N. Taylor Kamara argued that the evidence clearly established a prima facie case against the accused. Magistrate Jah, concurring with the prosecution, committed Kamara to face trial at the High Court and ordered his continued remand in custody.

The case stems from Kamara’s arrest on June 22, 2024, at Culvert, off Race Course Road in Freetown, where police say they discovered the suspected drugs in his possession without lawful authority.
