A 28-year-old trader, Alie Kamara, has been committed to the High Court for trial after being found in possession of 80 wraps of kush in Freetown.

Kamara appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No.1 on charges of unlawful drug possession, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drug Control Act of 2008.

According to police, the accused was arrested on June 22, 2024, at Culvert, off Race Course Road, with 60.4 grams of cannabis sativa, popularly known as kush, without lawful authority.

State Prosecutor ABN Taylor led evidence through ASP Joseph Stevens, a forensic analyst attached to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU). Stevens testified that he conducted chemical and microscopic examinations of the seized substance and confirmed it was cannabis sativa.

A forensic report dated July 9, 2024, was tendered in court and marked as Exhibit E1–2. The accused declined to cross-examine the witness.

The prosecution submitted that a prima facie case had been established and urged the court to commit the matter to the High Court.

In his ruling, Magistrate Jah agreed with the submission and ordered Kamara’s committal. The accused will remain in custody pending his trial before the superior court.
