Residents of Kailahun Town woke up to a chilling scene on Monday, February 10, 2025, when two bodies were discovered in an abandoned water well in the New Jombohun site community, Luawa Chiefdom.
The victims, Tamba Alpha and Tamba Brima, were found at around 9:00 AM, prompting immediate action from the local community, who contacted the Sierra Leone Police.
The authorities recovered the bodies and transported them to the Kailahun Government Hospital Mortuary for further examination to determine the exact cause of death. Afterward, the remains were returned to the families for burial in their respective villages.
According to the police report, the two men had noticed that snakes were inhabiting the old pit, leading them to set it ablaze. The following day, Alpha entered the pit to clean it. When he didn’t return, Tamba went in to check on him, but neither of them survived.
Sierra Leone Police investigator Samson Caulker confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and assured the public that efforts would be made to uncover the full details surrounding their deaths.
The two men were buried on the same day their bodies were discovered.
