Sierra Rutile Holdings Limited (ASX: SRX) has in a press release announce a tragic incident at its subsidiary, Sierra Rutile Limited (SRL), which resulted in the death of a worker at the Area 1 operations on 18 June 2024.
The Managing Director and CEO of SRL, Theuns de Bruyn, conveyed the company’s profound condolences:
“On behalf of SRL, I extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of our esteemed team member. This is an incredibly somber day for us all, and our primary focus is on providing support to those affected during this challenging period”
Mr. de Bruyn further stated, “We have initiated a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. SRL is fully committed to collaborating with local authorities in Sierra Leone throughout this process.
As a precautionary measure, operations at the relevant section of Area 1 have been temporarily suspended pending an initial safety assessment. SRX remains committed to keeping stakeholders informed with further updates as they become available.
