The Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission (SLTSC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has announced disciplinary measures against 12 school principals for failing to submit Year 2 Continuous Assessment grades for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates.

The investigation revealed that the affected schools, comprising both government-assisted and private institutions, neglected to submit the required assessment grades, which could have serious consequences for the students’ final grades.

While this omission will not prevent the students from sitting for their exams, WAEC officials stated that it will negatively impact their academic performance, affecting more than 1,400 candidates across Sierra Leone.

The issue has been identified as a recurring problem, prompting the SLTSC and MBSSE to implement more stringent disciplinary actions to deter future occurrences and maintain the integrity of the educational system.

List of Affected Schools and Candidates:

Bai Farama Senior Secondary School, Karene District (Government-assisted)

Dr. Khan Royal School of Excellence SSS, Tombo (Government-assisted)

Disciplinary Actions:

For Government and Government-Assisted Schools: Heads of the affected schools will face a six-month suspension without pay.

For Private Schools: The principals will be replaced by their respective institutions. Additionally, no proprietor will be allowed to serve as the head of any school.

These actions are part of a broader effort to uphold accountability and academic standards across the country’s education system, ensuring that the academic futures of students are not compromised.9
