To promote a peaceful and credible rescheduling of the Paramount Chieftaincy Election, Sierra Leonean authorities conducted a high-level engagement with stakeholders in Tunkia Chiefdom on Saturday, September 20th, 2025.

Led by CSP Bob Musa Nazlic Mansaray, the Local Unit Commander of Kenema Division, the delegation met with residents and community leaders to reinforce the commitment to a transparent and violence-free election process.

The visit follows the disruption of a previous election, underscoring the government’s commitment to restoring trust and maintaining law and order. Representatives from the Ministry of Local Government and the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) emphasized the importance of peaceful participation and warned against electoral misconduct.

Regent Chief Sumaila Munda welcomed the delegation in Gorahun, expressing gratitude for the community’s patience and highlighting the significance of choosing a rightful leader for Tunkia. He described the visit as timely and essential for rebuilding confidence in the electoral process.

Senior District Officer Harun K. Turay reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy on electoral fraud, announcing that voter lists will be publicly displayed for verification. He also emphasized that proxy voting is prohibited and offenders will face legal action.
ECSL representative Mr. Alex Saffa acknowledged past electoral issues and assured the community that measures have been strengthened.

He highlighted the appointment of Acting Commissioner Mr. Edward Sylvester Alpha as a step towards better oversight and transparency.
Security was also a key focus. CSP Mansaray assured residents of the police’s full support to guarantee a safe environment for all voters. He called on citizens to shun violence and resolve conflicts through legal means.

The community left the meeting optimistic, confident that the upcoming Paramount Chieftaincy Election will be conducted peacefully, fairly, and transparently.

The collective hope is for a smooth electoral process that upholds the integrity of Tunkia’s leadership.
