A long-standing dispute over a sand mining site in Taiama Town has taken a violent turn today, leaving two people in critical condition following confrontations between sand miners and individuals claiming ownership of the land.
According to local sources, tensions flared in the early hours of Friday when disagreements over rights to mine sand at the disputed site erupted into physical clashes.
Witnesses say the confrontation quickly escalated, resulting in serious injuries to at least two persons.
The injured were rushed to a nearby health facility, where medical staff described their condition as critical.

The dispute is reportedly between groups of sand miners operating in the area and alleged bush owners who claim customary ownership of the land where the mining activities are taking place.
