Two individuals were sentenced to jail by the Magistrate Court in Kenema on charges of domestic violence and theft, as the court continues its efforts to address rising social and criminal offenses in the city.

In the first case, Juldeh Jalloh was arraigned before Principal Magistrate His Worship Magistrate Hadiru Daboh, charged with domestic violence under Section 2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act No. 20 of 2007.

Prosecuting the case, Woman Police Constable PC 13576 Sillah Fatmata told the court that on December 20, 2025, at No. 3 Lambaya Avenue, Kenema, the accused, Jalloh, intentionally induced fear and emotionally abused his mother, Massah Farma.

Fatmata said that the abuse caused the complainant to feel constantly unhappy and distressed. The accused was informed of the charge, and the matter was adjourned for trial.

In a separate matter, Alie Mohamed was brought before the same court, charged with larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. According to Inspector Alphan Samuel Musa, on December 18, 2025, Mohamed stole twenty-five pairs of assorted creps (sneakers) valued at Eight Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifty New Leones (NLe 8,850), the property of Ishaka Musa, from Belgium’s Ground along Combema Road in Kenema.

Mohamed, who was described as a first-time offender, pleaded guilty to the crime and asked the court for mercy. Magistrate Daboh, after considering the plea, sentenced Mohamed to two years in prison at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Kenema. Alternatively, he was given the option to pay restitution for the stolen items to the complainant.

Both cases notably reflect the continued efforts of the Magistrate Court in tackling domestic-related offenses and property crimes within Kenema, reflecting the court’s commitment to addressing social issues and upholding the rule of law in the region.
