As police investigation continues, the remains of 14 years old, Theresa Tarawallie formerly of Kansay community in Koidu City who allegedly died during a female genital mutilation exercise in Kono District has finally been buried after a successful postmortem examination in Freetown.
According to the autopsy report dated 16th January, 2023 issued by Dr. Orwizz Koroma the fourteen (14) years old JSS three pupil, died as a result of an hypovolemic shock leading to Chronic blood loss due to prolonged bleeding for at least 14 days.
Meanwhile, the management of the Tankoro Police divisional Headquarters, especially the Criminal investigations Department (CID) has commended the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s affairs in Kono District for its intervention by footing all the bills to convey the remains of the 14 years old girl to and from Freetown for the said postmortem examination, including the citizens that gave the Police the tipoff that led to the uncovering of the said menace.
The Police therefore encouraged all and sundry to strongly share vital information with them for the sake of effective policing.
The suspect of the said female genital mutilation exercise is presently in Police custody helping police in their investigation, while the caretaker of the deceased then is on bail because she is a lactating mother.
