During an exclusive radio interview on Friday, October 6th, 2023, CSP Mr. Ibrahim M Sama, who serves as the Local Unit Commander of the Waterloo Police Division, expressed his deep appreciation and admiration for the discerning leadership of Sierra Leone’s Inspector-General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu.
This noteworthy interview took place at SLP Community Peace Radio 91.1 in King Tom, Freetown, with moderation by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Brima Kamara, widely known as Media 1.
In the course of this hour-long dialogue, CSP Mr. Ibrahim M Sama shared the remarkable narrative of his 22-year career with the Sierra Leone Police. He embarked on this journey as a Constable in 2001, dedicatedly serving in various capacities within Police Divisions, Stations, Departments, and Units across the nation. His career reached its zenith when he undertook a pivotal role as an Individual Police Officer Peace Keeper with the United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in 2010. In this capacity, he held the esteemed position of Formed Police Unit (FPU) Coordinator, typically reserved for a rank no less than an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
CSP Sama seized the opportunity to spotlight the achievements he has overseen as the Local Unit Commander of Waterloo. Under his stewardship, the Waterloo Police Division has made substantial progress in curbing criminal activities. These accomplishments encompassed the successful apprehension and prosecution of formidable criminals, including the notorious fugitive White Boy of Jorpoh Farm and Ibrahim Kalokoh of 4 Mile, who was convicted for the murder of lecturer Kabba Santigi Bangura.
Furthermore, he made mention of the successful arrests of Witch-doctor John Conteh, also known as Sharia Law, in possession of a human skull and firearms, underscored their commitment. Hundreds of illicit settlements were dismantled, thousands of drug peddlers and abusers brought to justice, and areas notorious for street vending were decongested. The police force also rescued individuals subjected to forced initiation into secret societies and apprehended the notorious armed robber Almamy Kargbo, known as Shakur, with a fully loaded pistol. Summing up these efforts, CSP Sama declared,
“In short, we have achieved unprecedented successes in law enforcement and security management in Waterloo under my leadership.”
Mr. Edward Buba Sesay, Chairman of the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB), joined the conversation to commend CSP Mr. Ibrahim M Sama’s leadership style. He attributed the recent triumphs of the Waterloo Police to Sama’s adept leadership, emphasizing that “when the leader is up to the task, great things happen.”
