A fugitive housewife, suspected of murdering her husband in a village in the northern district of Tonkolili, has been arrested and taken to Mile 91 Police Station.

On the morning of January 18, 2025, around 3:00 a.m., Marie Bangura allegedly left her husband, Sullay Koroma, with bruises on his head and forehead after a fight in Mathinka Bana, Kholifa Mabang Chiefdom.

The injuries led to Koroma’s death, and the incident reportedly occurred when most of the village was asleep.

After the alleged murder, Bangura quietly fled the village, leaving the community in panic. The village was awakened by the loud cries of the couple’s seven-year-old grandchild, who alerted the entire community to the tragedy.

Authorities in Mathinka Bana immediately dispatched a search party, which scoured the bushes for days in search of the suspect.

According to reports, the couple had been experiencing marital issues for some time, with persistent quarrels over Bangura’s refusal to engage in sexual relations with her husband. While the exact circumstances surrounding Koroma’s death remain unclear, many in the community believe it was connected to their frequent midnight disputes.

After the incident, several neighboring villages were alerted, and efforts to arrest Bangura and hand her over to the police proved fruitless. Even after the matter was reported to Mile 91 Police Station, some members of the Mathinka Bana community were detained for questioning, including the village headman.

The search for Bangura continued, and she was eventually arrested in Gaindema, a village near Mile 91.

She had emerged from the bushes to beg for food, and residents there suspected her to be the woman reported to have killed her husband. Upon being confronted, Bangura was unable to provide satisfactory answers to questions, which raised further suspicions.

Bangura was taken into custody and transported to Mile 91 Police Station, where her detention was confirmed by a police source.
