According to the Communications Director at the Office of the President, Michael Berewa, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the government of Sierra Leone has helped 145 Sierra Leoneans stranded in Niger to safely return to their country of origin.
This repatriation took place Saturday, the 19th November, 2022 through an air charter flight.
The charter flight was made possible by EU-IOM joint initiative for migrants’ protection and reintegration.
These returnees were part of hundreds of Sierra Leoneans that got stranded and stuck in Niger whilst they were trying to reach Europe.
However with the help of the Sierra Leone Government and IOM, they have been brought back to their home country, Sierra Leone.
