Dr. Sartie Kanneh, the Chief Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health, has brought attention to a concerning trend at the Kissy Psychiatric Hospital.
According to Dr. Kanneh, out of the 2,955 patients admitted for drug abuse in 2023, a staggering 1,865 cases were attributed to Kush, a potent form of cannabis.
Highlighting the severity of the situation, Dr. Kanneh emphasized that a significant portion of the patients, approximately 75%, fell within the age bracket of 20 to 34 years old. This demographic trend underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions and awareness campaigns to address substance abuse among young adults.
The gravity of the issue has been further underscored by a recent tragic event that has shaken the community. A mass burial was held for 32 unidentified young individuals, comprising 25 males and 7 females, who were laid to rest in an undignified mass grave. This distressing incident has ignited widespread outrage and renewed calls on social media platforms for decisive government action against what many are describing as a pandemic of substance abuse.
As concerns mount over the escalating impact of Kush and other drugs on society, stakeholders are urging concerted efforts from both governmental and non-governmental organizations to tackle the root causes of addiction and provide support for those affected.
The Ministry of Health has yet to announce specific measures in response to these developments, but pressure is mounting for swift and decisive action to address the growing crisis of drug abuse, particularly among the youth population.
Watch Video;
That’s a lie, I’m staying at the back of the Psychiatric Hospital, but such amount of patients are admitted in the hospital. Each ward is consisting of 30 patients each. Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 5, Ward 7 and Ward 10. With only Five wards how will such amount of patients be admitted?
Do not be too hasty to refute without solid facts and proof. If you listen to the CMO’s address in the video above, the number 2000+ was for tge period of 1 whole year. So it is possible.
