The Election Manager of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) in Tonkolili District, Emmanuel Yagbagie has disclosed that 20,581 people in three wards – 186, 187 and 188 are expected to vote in 70 polling stations in Constituency 056 by elections.
He made this disclosure in an interview with the local press.
“The expected population of registered voters to cast ballots on constituency 056 elections on Saturday 25th June 2022 is 20,581 in three wards of 186, 187 and 188 of Tonkolili district with 70 polling stations,” Yagbagie said.
He added that the elections will be contested between the the main opposition, All people’s Congress’s candidate, Jawah Sesay and the Sierra People’s party’s candidate Foyoh Tholley.
Both the SLPP and the APC have 58 seats in Parliament, and Constituency 056 by election will determine which political party will have majority in Parliament.
The district election manager noted that they have put all modalities in place to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free and peaceful manner.
Earlier this month, the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone banned all political rallies in Tonkolili District following incidents of violence between supporters of the two parties.
Meanwhile, this week, both APC and SLPP have signed a Memorandum of Understanding where they committed to peace before, during and after the elections.
