In an official press release, the Ministry of Defence and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces have announced the retirement of Thirty-Seven (37) officers following the Defence Council (DC) meeting held on Thursday, January 18th, 2024.
The retirement affects officers across various ranks, with Eighteen (18) individuals ranging from Lieutenant to Major being discharged for alleged subversion. According to Colonel Issa Bangura, the Director of Public Relations for the Ministry of Defense, the total number of officers discharged is 37.
The breakdown of retirements includes Six (6) officers who opted for voluntary retirement, Eight (8) who were compulsorily discharged due to prolonged absence without leave, and Five (5) who faced retirement for alleged misconduct.
