Six individuals were apprehended and subsequently imprisoned during their initial appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngeba of Court No:1 at Pademba Road.
The accused were remanded to the Male Correctional Centre on allegations of robbing a High Court Judge.
They were brought before the court on three charges, namely conspiracy to commit a felony, robbery with aggravation, and receiving stolen goods, all of which are in violation of Sierra Leonean laws.
According to reports, it was claimed that between May 1st and May 7th, 2023, the six accused individuals conspired with an unknown person to commit the felony of robbery with aggravation in Freetown.
The police alleged that on May 19th, 2023, at Masimbo, Regent, Freetown, the six accused individuals, armed with a gun and machetes, robbed Justice Alfred Tommy Ganda.
The stolen items included a black Dell laptop valued at Le 4,000.00, a black Toshiba laptop computer valued at Le 3,000.00, two HP laptop computers valued at Le 6,000.00, five pairs of assorted color shoes valued at Le 10,000.00, six pairs of sneakers valued at Le 9,000.00, a pair of Timberland boots valued at Le 2,000.00, a LaVicTa wristwatch valued at Le 6,000.00, two bottles of Hennessy whisky valued at Le 2,000.00, an Itel phone valued at Le 1,000.00, a Tenco Cammon 19 mobile phone valued at Le 7,000.00, a Tenco Spark mobile phone valued at Le 3,000.00, a bottle of Bailey’s whisky valued at Le 800.00, a cash sum of Le 14,000.00, and USD 300 equivalent to Le 6,900.00, making the total value of the stolen items Le 74,700.00.
Furthermore, the report alleged that during or immediately before or immediately after the robbery, the accused individuals employed personal violence against Justice Alfred Tommy Ganda.
The police report also stated that two of the accused individuals, Yusif Kanu and Abu Bakarr Sidique, also known as Buba, on May 19th, 2023, at King Jimmy, Wallace Johnson Street in Freetown, received the aforementioned stolen items belonging to the aforementioned judge.
The prosecuting counsel requested a short adjournment due to the unavailability of her witness, whom she intends to bring to court on the next hearing date.
Meanwhile, the defense counsel representing the second accused person applied for bail, but the Magistrate refused the request due to the gravity of the case.
The proceedings were adjourned to July 10th, 2023, for further hearings.
