The presidential spokesman, Alpha Kanu, responded to concerns about job creation and government efforts following the promise made in the 2023 manifesto.
Kanu said when the president says he will employ 500,000 people, the government is fully committed. He pointed out that over 70% of the country’s people are employed not in offices in Freetown but in rural areas, mainly in farming and agriculture.
The government’s 2023 manifesto includes a plan to create 500,000 jobs within five years. This means about 75,000 new jobs will be created each year as part of the Big Five objectives.
He said the government has worked to improve productivity in rural areas, which is why it brought 410 tractors between 2018 and now. The tractors are meant to support farmers and increase food production across the country. Despite this, some people are still complaining.
Kanu said he saw a clip of Burkina Faso’s current president, Ibrahim Traore, who brought 300 tractors, and the people there celebrated him. But he noted that while Sierra Leone’s government brought in 410 tractors, people here are still condemning the effort.
He added that Sierra Leoneans should learn to appreciate the efforts of those who are trying and said the president is working hard to deliver.
Kanu compared Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso, noting that Burkina Faso’s president brought 300 tractors and received celebrations, while Sierra Leone’s government brought 410 tractors but still faces complaints. He said Sierra Leoneans should recognize the efforts being made and support the president as he works to improve agriculture and create jobs.

This statement left me without a word to say and even start wondering whether our politicians had an iota of integrity. If Kanu keep on measuring that they have employed over 75% of idling youths in this country, then needless to debate it on media. One does need to justify development because it speaks for itself. The people in Burkina are celebrating Traore because he has something to point to but in our own case, we have no clue about where the farming is taking place and who is employing those 75% youths. There’s absolutely no comparison between sierra leone and Burkina because we are exporting only 0.5% while Burkina is currently exporting tomatoes and vehicles to other countries. Your conscience will hold you to ransom for the delebrate composition of lies why trying to please your master.
Sometimes I wonder how some of you even became a politicians because some of you lack integrity and transparency

I will not disagree and agree with Mr kanu but we the 30% unemployed are still waiting for a better future.
About appreciating leaders,we know that they should do better especially being in the office for 5yrs and above.
When things get better, there is no need to say because the masses will feel it.
