In a demonstration of commitment to improving healthcare outcomes in Sierra Leone, Abbott Rapid Diagnostics paid a courtesy call to Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the First Lady of Sierra Leone, at her Goderich office in Freetown.
The visit served as an opportunity to discuss ongoing efforts to raise awareness and improve access to testing and treatment for HIV and Hepatitis B.
During the meeting, Abbott Rapid Diagnostics representatives highlighted the company’s innovative point-of-care HIV and Hepatitis B testing solutions, which offer rapid, accurate, and affordable diagnostic options. These solutions are particularly well-suited for resource-limited settings like Sierra Leone, where access to traditional laboratory testing may be limited.
Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio expressed her appreciation for Abbott Rapid Diagnostics’ commitment to improving healthcare in Sierra Leone. She emphasised the importance of early diagnosis and treatment for HIV and hepatitis B, noting that these diseases can have devastating consequences if left untreated. The First Lady also expressed her support for Abbott Rapid Diagnostics’ efforts to raise awareness about these diseases and encourage people to get tested.
In addition to discussing HIV and Hepatitis B, Abbott Rapid Diagnostics also presented Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio with an overview of the company’s other healthcare solutions. These solutions include rapid diagnostic tests for malaria, dengue fever, and syphilis, as well as a range of point-of-care blood glucose monitors.
Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio was impressed with the efforts of Abbott Rapid Diagnostics’ healthcare services to significantly improve people’s lives in Sierra Leone.
The courtesy call concluded with an agreement between Abbott Rapid Diagnostics and the Office of the First Lady to collaborate on raising awareness about HIV and Hepatitis B. The two parties will work together to develop and implement educational campaigns, distribute testing kits, and provide training to healthcare workers.
This collaboration between Abbott Rapid Diagnostics and the Office of the First Lady is a significant step forward in the fight against HIV and Hepatitis B in Sierra Leone. By working together, the two organisations can help to ensure that people in Sierra Leone have access to the testing and treatment they need to live healthy and productive lives.
