The All People’s Congress (APC) Party Parliamentary Whip, Abdul Karim Kamara, has publicly criticise President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to fighting corruption in Sierra Leone.

His statement came in response to a recent Afrobarometer report indicating a notable decline in corruption within the country, a claim Kamara vehemently disputes.

During an interview, Kamara alleged that President Bio has adopted practices he previously condemned while in opposition. “The President is not interested in the fight against corruption,” Kamara stated.

He pointed out that the individuals appointed to assist in the anti-corruption efforts have become embroiled in disputes over authority rather than addressing the mismanagement of public funds.

Kamara stressed that essential public services meant for the citizens are being neglected. He remarked, “When public services that are meant to go to the people are not being catered for, and the President keeps quiet, it raises serious questions about his commitment.”

In his critique, Kamara said the inconsistency in the President’s actions compared to his previous statements while in opposition. “If it was done then and you condemned it all over the place as opposition, and you made the audit report and audit queries the basis for your analysis of corruption in the country, and when you came to power as president, you still allow the same things to happen, it shows that your own commitment to the fight against corruption is also questionable,” he said firmly.
