Sierra Leone’s Union of Academic Staff Association (UASA) has written the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, noticing of their decision to revoke the previous suspension of the industrial action and holding a 7 days strike nationwide.
This comes after the government failed to fulfill the promises to address the burning welfare issues of the Academic staff after series of engagements with them since August last year.
Because of the delay in addressing their problems, UASA informed the University and Polytechnic Authorities that the endurance of its membership has reached its limit and have deemed it necessary to use the only option that could make the authorities to respond to their needs without any further delay.
To discuss the way forward, the Union of the Academic Staff Association (UASA) informed that a meeting was held today at the Freetown Polytechnic and as a resolve, they’ve unanimously agreed to implement the industrial action immediately till 8 March, 2024.
The UASA therefore declared full implementation of industrial action and instructed all its member institutions to comply fully with the declaration.
