In a resolute statement at a Management Retreat held at The Place Resort in Tokeh, Sierra Leone, the Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., affirmed his commitment to intensifying the fight against corruption in the country over the next five years.

Addressing Directors, Deputy Directors, and Regional Managers of the Commission, Kaifala likened them to crucial military Generals, responsible for devising effective strategies to win the battle against corruption.

We must plan meticulously to ensure we do not fail the people of Sierra Leone and those who depend on our leadership,” the Commissioner emphasized, underscoring the pivotal role the ACC plays in the country’s governance activities.

Kaifala further stated that the Commission’s success was integral to supporting the government’s mission of fostering a prosperous Sierra Leone, and he stressed the need for a solid strategy to enhance the Commission’s work, ensuring maximum value for money and efficiency.

The Commissioner expressed his ambition for significant progress, surpassing the achievements of the past five years. Sierra Leone’s current ranking of 110 in the Transparency International Index prompted Kaifala to set an ambitious goal of achieving double-digit rankings in the next five years.

Throughout the three-day retreat, concluding on July 22, 2023, all departmental directors and regional managers will present innovative approaches and new tactics for combating corruption in the country.

The Lead Facilitator for the Retreat, Dr. Modupeh Taylor-Pearce, asserted the necessity of disciplinary leadership at the core of the Commission’s operations to elevate it into a more effective and reputable institution.

Commissioner Kaifala concluded his address with an encouragement to the Management Team to embrace innovation and remain receptive to novel ideas that could bolster the fight against corruption. “We have the responsibility to demonstrate to Sierra Leone and the world that a better, corruption-free society is indeed possible,” he declared.
