The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has convened an inception meeting with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) at the Integrity House in Tower Hill, marking the start of a new initiative aimed at strengthening ethical standards and anti-corruption systems across the public sector.
In his opening statement, Rashid Turay, Director of the Prevention Department, noted that the initiative is grounded in the ACC’s mandate under the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008 (as amended in 2019), which authorizes the Commission to review institutional practices and procedures to reduce corruption risks. He explained that the newly developed Ethics and Integrity Scorecard is intended to reinforce ethical standards and improve service delivery within public institutions.
Deputy Director Samuel Muti Marah Esq. added that the Policy and Ethics Unit will lead the assessment process, focusing on how well MDAs uphold ethical norms, implement anti-corruption controls, and manage vulnerabilities. He stressed that the scorecard will provide actionable recommendations to enhance transparency, accountability, and overall institutional performance.
Musa Kanteh, Head of the Policy and Ethics Unit, outlined the methodology guiding the exercise and underscored the importance of engaging MDAs early through inception meetings. He said the scorecard is expected to foster a stronger culture of ethical conduct and improve compliance across government departments.
The meeting ended with an interactive Q&A session centered on the submission of questionnaires administered to MDAs, ensuring that participants fully understand their roles in advancing anti-corruption efforts and promoting good governance.
