The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken a decisive step by indicting Sheku Abdulai Kamara, Assistant Finance Officer at Eastern Technical University, on 26 counts of corruption offenses.

The charges stem from the misappropriation of tuition fees from 21 students, totaling 75 million (old) Leones.

In a press release, the ACC detailed the indictment against Sheku Abdulai Kamara, citing violations of Section 36 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 12 of 2008, as amended by the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2019. The charges accuse Kamara of misappropriating public funds between January 2021 and December 2023, amounting to Le75,167,000.

The ACC emphasized that the misappropriated funds were received as tuition fees from 21 students at Eastern Technical University. Sheku Abdulai Kamara is slated to appear in the High Court of Sierra Leone, Holden at Kenema, on January 30, 2024.

The Commission reassures the public of its commitment to combating corruption and holding individuals accountable for financial misconduct. The indictment marks a significant step in ensuring transparency and accountability within educational institutions.
