In a recent revelation during the weekly press briefing of the Ministry of Information, the Anti-Corruption Commissioner emphasized that the ACC lacks the authority to remove individuals from office during an ongoing investigation. Only when a matter is formally charged in court can an individual be compelled to vacate their position.

The disclosure came as part of an update provided during the briefing on the alleged conflict of interest involving the Clerk of Parliament and his wife. The commissioner revealed that, during the investigation, discrepancies emerged regarding the duration of the wife’s employment. While the Clerk stated that she worked for 10 months, records at the Accountant General’s office indicated a period of 19 months.

As a condition of bail, Mr. Paran Tarawallie and his wife voluntarily returned Nle131,000. However, the commissioner emphasized that this payment does not absolve anyone of liability and responsibility, reiterating that the matter is still under investigation.
