The Judiciary of Sierra Leone under the watchful hands of the Acting Chief Justice Hon. Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the country’s constitution and ensuring justice is delivered in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
This was emphasized during the annual ‘After Service’ reception held at the Law Court Building in Freetown, marking the official start of the 2024/2025 Judicial Year.
The event, attended by judges, lawyers, judiciary staff, and distinguished guests, followed a week of ceremonial activities that included a thanksgiving service at the Saint George’s Cathedral Church.
Themed “Justice For All,” the service was held to express gratitude for the conclusion of the previous judicial year and to seek divine guidance for the new term. A Juma prayer service and the Sunday thanksgiving event, conducted in late September, emphasized the judiciary’s recognition of God’s supremacy in delivering justice.
In his address, Acting Chief Justice Nicholas Browne Marke presided over the call-over of 94 criminal cases, ranging from treason, murder, and conspiracy to robbery with aggravation, larceny, and unlawful possession of drugs. He assured the public of the judiciary’s dedication to expediting these cases in the interest of justice and fairness.
The week-long activities were inaugurated with a ceremonial guard of honor mounted by the Sierra Leone Police at the Law Court’s Building, symbolizing the judiciary’s readiness for the year ahead.
