Former ACC Commissioner Ady Macaulay has accused the Sierra Leone Police of violating their Constitutional rights by preventing members of the Sierra Leone Bar Association from assembling and holding a Peaceful Requisition EGM at the new Brookfield’s Hotel.

Lawyer Macauley took to social media with a critic Post which states “Today the SLP @PoliceLeone illegally prevented members of the Sierra Leone Bar Association from assembling & holding a peaceful Requisitioned EGM at the New Brookfields Hotel. Their actions were a total violation of our right to freely associate & assemble as enshrined & guaranteed in the 1991 constitution. We are putting the Inspector General of Police on NOTICE that we will initiate legal action against him for the shenanigans of his Officers. No one will stand in our way,”

The Sierra Leone Police obstructed the Sierra Leone Bar Association’s Emergency General Meeting (EGM), scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 10, 2024,  at the New Brookfields Hotel.

The incident has drawn Public attention questioning the rationale behind the prevention of the  gathering .
