The African Union Assessment Team, representing the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), has officially declared the sixth Formed Police Unit (FPU-6) fit for peacekeeping deployment missions.

This announcement was made at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy.

The assessment team’s decision was guided by comprehensive evaluations based on international AU standards, focusing on both individual and team performance during a series of simulation exercises. These scenarios were designed to test the Unit’s operational response in life-threatening situations.

After several months of intensive training, FPU-6 personnel demonstrated exceptional readiness and capability, culminating in a selection process that honored only the best candidates for this vital mission.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) John Tumbay expressed gratitude to the assessment team, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Executive Management Board, training instructors, and all members of FPU-6 for their commitment and professionalism, which have positioned them well for deployment in Somalia.
