Sierra Leone’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka has participated in Germany’s Global Forum for Food and Agriculture making a case for President Bio’s FeedSalone Initiative on Global Stage.
The event’s theme, “Stepping up Climate Action in Food Systems to Achieve a Zero Hunger World,” gathered approximately 2,000 international guests in 2024.
Discussions centered on shaping the future of food systems, fostering collaboration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, and realizing the human right to food through various events, including 16 Expert Panels, 2 High Level Panels, a High Level Debate co-hosted by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the Munich Security Conference (MSC), and an Innovation Forum.
The High Level Debate, co-hosted by BMEL and MSC for the first time, featured Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir, Commissioner from the African Union (AU) Josefa Sacko, and Janet Maro (CEO Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT), among others. They engaged in a discussion on “Food, Climate, and Security: Joining Forces for a Safer Tomorrow,” moderated by Dr. (Valium) Michael Werz (MSC).
The political highlight of the event was the 16th Berliner Conference of Ministers of Agriculture, attended by 61 Ministers from around the world and 12 high-level representatives of International Organizations.
In their final communiqué, the ministers committed to advancing the necessary transformation towards sustainable and resilient agriculture and food systems, emphasizing that this is crucial for realizing the right to adequate food globally. Recognizing the destabilizing impact of the climate and biodiversity crises, they pledged support for agricultural practices and technologies promoting sustainable food production. Additionally, the ministers condemned Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, acknowledging its drastic impact on global hunger.
