Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, David Moinina Sengeh, has called on citizens to embrace the spirit of forgiveness during the holy seasons of Lent and Ramadan.
Sengeh emphasized the importance of self-forgiveness and extending grace to others, urging unity and reconciliation in a nation where both Christian and Muslim communities observe these sacred periods.
“My prayer is simple: FORGIVENESS. May we forgive ourselves and may we forgive our brothers and sisters,” Sengeh wrote, highlighting the shared values of peace and reconciliation central to both faiths.
The call comes as Christians worldwide, particularly Catholics, marked the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday on March 5, 2025. This 40-day period of reflection, penance, and spiritual preparation leads up to Easter Sunday, celebrated on April 20, 2025.
For Muslims, Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer, and spiritual renewal, will also be observed during this time.
Great message sent Hon. Chief Minister.
