Air Sierra Leone is set to significantly expand its international operations with the launch of direct flights between Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom, the airline announced today.

This development comes just three months after the successful commencement of commercial flights between Freetown and Lagos.

The inaugural flight on the new route is scheduled for April 26-27, 2025, marking a major step in the resurgence of Sierra Leone’s aviation industry. The service will be operated three times a week using a brand new Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft, boasting a capacity of 189 seats.

Flights will depart Gatwick International Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:00 PM, arriving at Freetown International Airport at approximately 5:00 AM the following morning. Return flights from Freetown will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 9:00 AM, with an estimated arrival time of 3:00 PM at Gatwick.

To commemorate this milestone, a joint press conference hosted by the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) and Air Sierra Leone will be held at Freetown International Airport on April 26, 2025, at 1:30 PM. This will be followed by a Grand Launch Gala Dinner later the same day.

The launch event on April 26-27 will also mark the opening of ticket sales for the Freetown-London route, with full commercial operations commencing on June 16, 2025.

Passengers can book tickets and make purchases through the airline’s website at www.flysierraleone.com, by visiting their Head Office located at 21/23 Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown, or via authorized Sales Representatives.

Augustine Bona, Head of Media and Communications/Public Relations Officer for Air Sierra Leone, stated that the airline remains “committed to delivering world-class services, ensuring safety, reliability, and an enjoyable traveling experience while flying the flag of Sierra Leone higher, with pride.”
