Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, the Mayor of the Freetown City Council (FCC), recently shared her thoughts on her first day back in office, along with her unwavering commitment to fostering comprehensive development and improvement within the city.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr highlighted that her return to office came after an absence of nine months, following her departure on February 28, 2023. She described her day upon returning to the office, which commenced with an interview at AYV TV and Radio. She also expressed her dedication to focusing entirely on initiatives aimed at transforming the city for the better.
In her message, Mayor Aki-Sawyer stated, “Today was my first day back at work as the Mayor of Freetown, 9 months after vacating the office on 28th February this year. My day started with interviews at AYV TV and Radio. My next engagement was directly aligned with our #TransformFreetown ‘Job Creation with a Tourism Focus’ priority sector. I delivered the opening remarks at a workshop aimed at providing training on strategic heritage tourism and exploring the potential for the development and effective marketing of a Historic Walking Tour of Freetown and a Biennial Roots Festival.
Following this, a general staff meeting was held during which I had the opportunity to express my gratitude to all FCC staff for their support during my re-election and for their dedicated service in my absence. I introduced the Deputy Mayor to the staff and requested their renewed commitment to working as a cohesive team to deliver on our Transform Freetown agenda.
One of the highlights of the day was the surprise celebration organized for me and the Deputy Mayor by FCC staff. The day concluded with joyous dancing, but we are fully aware that it’s back to serious work tomorrow!”
Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyer’s return to office marks a significant moment for Freetown as she embarks on her mission to transform and enhance the city’s development, with a renewed commitment to her #TransformFreetown agenda.
