The Democratic Republic of Algeria, on Monday, November 3, 2025, celebrated the 71st Anniversary of the Liberation Revolution in Freetown, with Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Kabba, as the guest speaker.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Algeria to Sierra Leone, H.E. Abdelhafid Hachem, stated that the celebration reflects the shared and common history between Sierra Leone and Algeria, which are both against colonial rule and injustice.
“It is this historical solidarity that continues to shape and strengthen our partnership.”
He stated that the two countries over the past 54-year have enjoyed bilateral relationship on coorporation, solidarity, and mutual respect. “This strong and enduring ties continue to serve as a foundation for our shared commitment for peace, development, and progress.”
He mentioned President Julius Maada Bio’s visit to Algeria in January 2024, describing it as a turning point in the bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in this new era of economic cooperation, which led to the signing of a joint communique.
He added that the reopening of the Algerian Embassy in Freetown in 2025 symbolizes a renewed commitment to closer ties, noting that the shared presence of both countries at the United Nations Security Council further enables them to consult and address regional and international matters with clarity.
He reaffirmed his country’s continued support for Sierra Leone’s education sector by providing scholarships and training opportunities to deserving students as part of their commitment to human capital development.
In his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, highlighted that the celebration serves as a strong and lasting symbol of the resilience, unity, and steadfast determination of the Algerian people in their quest for freedom.

“It is a proud reminder of Algeria’s stedfast commitment to the principles of Sovereignty, self determination, and social progress, values that continue to inspire the African Continent.”
According to Kabba, the anniversary is not just a celebration, but a day to honour and pay tribute to the brave men and women whose vision, selflessness, and determination transform Algeria’s history.
He said Algeria’s revolution inspired many African countries to fight against colonialism and bring in the Pan-Africanism.

He said Sierra Leone and Algeria representation on the United Nations Security Council and active members of the African Union Peace and Security Council, and the African Union Committee of 10 on the reform of the UN Security Council are not mere coincidences but rather a clear testament to the trusting confidence that the international community and fellow African countries have in the two countries.
