The Makendeh Village in Yonimabanta Chiefdom has historically welcomed its first-ever University graduate in a grand ceremony celebration.
Alusine Bai Turay, who is 25 years old, returned home after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Central University, with a 4.06 GPA, and was named the best student in the department of agriculture.
The entire village gathered to honor Alusine with an extraordinary celebration they’ve never had. Elders, children, and women all were singing and dancing as they celebrated the achievements of their son.
Alusine thanked his parents, Pa Kaprr Turay and Madam Isatu Kamara Turay, for everything they’ve done for him to date. He also extended his thanks and appreciation to his village people who had showered him with love and support despite the fact that he came from a poor background. He remained humble and grateful to all those who had contributed in one way or the other to his success.
The Chancellor of Central University, Dr. Muckson Sesay talked about how the university also celebrated Alusine’s success and contributed to the development of each student in the society.
“Central University, we do not only hand out degrees. We see education as something rooted in community. Alusine’s homecoming reminded us of a culture where success is shared, not owned and where people still believe that your achievement is their achievement.” He said.
As Alusine received prayers from his people in Makendeh Village, he stood still to embark on his journey to receiving more success and great opportunities ahead.
