Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Ambassador to Morocco, His Excellency Alhaji Momodu Koroma, arrived in Rabat on Sunday, November 3, 2024, marking the beginning of his official diplomatic tenure in the North African nation.
Ambassador Koroma was warmly welcomed by embassy staff, including Mr. James Sylvanus Lebbie, the Head of Chancery (HOC) at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Morocco.
Ambassador Koroma’s appointment is viewed as a strategic move to bolster Sierra Leone’s economic diplomacy, with his extensive experience in government and diplomacy expected to play a pivotal role in fostering stronger bilateral ties with Morocco. He previously served in various capacities within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and was a member of the administration of former President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah, bringing a depth of experience to his new position.
This diplomatic mission to Morocco follows the efforts initiated under H.E. Atumanni Dainkeh, Sierra Leone’s first ambassador to Morocco, and comes amid ongoing trade agreements aimed at increasing investment and economic collaboration between the two nations. Ambassador Koroma’s focus is expected to center on reinforcing Sierra Leone’s economic partnerships in line with President Julius Maada Bio’s foreign policy priorities. President Bio formally established the Sierra Leone Embassy in Rabat on August 27, 2021, to advance bilateral cooperation and facilitate investment opportunities in Sierra Leone.
Ambassador Koroma’s tenure is anticipated to further Sierra Leone’s economic interests in Morocco and expand the scope of mutual cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and development initiatives.
