In a significant effort to combat illegal drug trafficking in Sierra Leone, the National Revenue Authority (NRA), the management of Sierra Leone Ports and Harbour Authority, and key stakeholders from security agencies conducted a rigorous inspection of a shipping container at Queen Elizabeth Quay II (Wataquay). During the search, officials uncovered a stash of dried leaves suspected to be ‘Kush’ along with various liquid chemical substances.
This operation highlights ongoing concerns regarding illegal trade practices and the rising prevalence of drug smuggling in the country. Mr. Tennyson Bio, Commissioner of the Customs Services Department, emphasized the importance of such collaborative efforts in maintaining the integrity of the nation’s borders. He stated that by implementing stringent checks and fostering partnerships with port operators, authorities aim to deter smuggling activities and enhance revenue collection.
The authorities assured the public that they will continue to adapt and respond proactively to emerging challenges within the trade landscape, reinforcing the government’s determination to tackle drug trafficking effectively.
