The National Publicity Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC), Sidie Yayah Tunis has accused the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) of not giving the APC an equal opportunity at the National Broadcaster.
Mr. Sidie Yayah Tunis said this on Radio Democracy on the 16 August, 2021. He explained that it is two years since the APC was last hosted at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation, adding that in a democratic state, equal opportunity should be given to all opposition parties, especially the main opposition, to speak on national issues.
While discussing the upcoming APC convention, Mr. Tunis highlighted that for many times the National Broadcaster has refused covering APC events.
Responding to the allegations, the Director General of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation, Joseph Egbenda Kapuwa, stated that the allegations by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, are unfounded, adding that the National Broadcaster has always given equal opportunity to all political parties.
Mr. Kapuwa furthered that the SLBC has been covering events of the All People’s Congress, maintaining that the State Broadcaster is open to all political parties, and that the SLBC has never denied APC a coverage.
