Members of Parliament representing the All Peoples Congress (APC) yesterday boycotted the ongoing 2023 budget hearing which set tongues wagging.
The said action by APC MPs, according to political observers, must be in continued protest against the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) led government for forcefully laying the loathed Proposition Representation (PR)/District Block System Bill in Parliament, last week.
It could be recalled that last week, APC MPs were violently booted out from Parliament by armed personnel of the Operations Support Division (OSD).
However, despite the boycott, the debate continued as the Chairman of the Financial Committee, Hon. Kaisamba laid the premise for the budget debate in which he said the government has done a lot of development in the area of road construction and maintenance, education, health, energy, agriculture, and good governance, among others.
In his contribution, Hon Paul Sahr Sam from Kono said that the SLPP-led government has woefully failed to fulfil its 2018 manifesto, as, according to him, it promised to provide uniforms, shoes and other learning and school materials for pupils but that to his greatest dismay, his district and others are yet to benefit from the promise.
