The All Peoples Congress (APC) has strongly rejected the government’s announcement of plans to create two new districts—Bandajuma and Kpangoma—and establish new cities, including Lungi Township, calling the move “undemocratic, illegal, and politically motivated.”
In a press release issued today, the APC accused the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Tamba Lamin, of making a “reckless and irresponsible” pronouncement during the Civic Day Series in Moyamba without proper national consultation, statutory backing, or reliable census data.
The party warned that the government’s decision is a “dangerous provocation” aimed at manipulating Sierra Leone’s governance and electoral systems for partisan gain. The APC insisted that any creation of new districts or cities must be based on credible census results, which have not yet been conducted.
“The current census process has not even begun in earnest,” the statement read. “There is no final project document, no preliminary results, and no validated data. Yet, the Minister claims Cabinet has already approved new districts and cities.”
The APC further alleged that the ruling party is attempting to rig the census, exclude opposition voices, and predetermine electoral boundaries to consolidate power. The party cited its exclusion from the Census Technical Committee as evidence of bias.
“We will fiercely resist any attempt to implement these reforms before a credible census is completed,” the APC declared, calling the move a “blatant abuse of power” meant to distort future parliamentary seat allocations.
The party urged Sierra Leoneans to remain vigilant, warning that the government’s actions threaten democratic governance. It also called on international partners, including the UN, AU, ECOWAS, and Western embassies, to take note of what it described as interference in the census process.
The APC demanded an immediate retraction of the Minister’s statement and a full clarification from the Cabinet, vowing to challenge the decision through lawful means.
“Let it be known: the APC will fight resolutely against any tampering with our governance structures,” the statement concluded.
All he cares for is how to continue to impoverished sierra leoneans not how to make it grow
When two districts were created in the northern province just to inflate the numbers of MPs in parliament, no one was ranting about it in the APC. Now SLPP want to do the same, some selfish APC members are saying all sought of rubbish.
APC party have PhD in stupidity
What goes round surely comes around, A P C how credible your 2015 census was to create two districts in a single region by then (northern) region?
This is just a smoke we are going to create two first by 2035 census we will create another two. Lansana Dumbuya go back to the drawing board. So e hat en?
This sounds ridiculous to the hearing of Sierra Leonens, because, the current parliament comprise APC legislators, for the party to come out with also another reckless statement as above seems to be confusing the electorates
Of course, this sort of behavior of the APCSL is not new to Sierra Leoneans. It has always been like this, and it will certainly continue to be like this.
The legislators have passed the bill into law, we look forward to its implementation. 😂
APC party always love to cause unnecessary problem
What goes around comes around APC shut up
Where was Lansana Dumbuya when APC created 2 very insignificant districts..Falaba and Karene, plus numerous tiny chiefdoms in the north excluding class A chiefdoms in the East n South of Salone for their own political gains. APC den smart but not clever.
The population and size of Lower Bambara Chiefdom (Panguma
chiefdom headquarter town) alone is more than Falaba n Karen’s combined
May I ask, when the APC party unilaterally created Karene and Falaba Districts, was it fair to the SLPP at that time? The APC thinks they own Sierra Leone and can do whatever they like with impunity. Their behaviour at that time was most reckless, undemocratic, useless and politically motivated. Lansana Dumbuya should just shut up.
Now you need not to worry, at the time when the former president created 2 district in the north Landana where were you at that time did you condemn him so stop fooling your self the public is watching at you people.
Dumbuya……. the dumbest, most reckless and dishonest secretary General ever in salone politics. Where was the opposition when the Bill was passed in parliament? Damn UNPROGRESSIVE bunch of no – hopers. Dumbuya, you are really idle and you want to be seen as dping something. There is big job on your desk which you are toying with…. Sam Sumana’s membership issue on your desk. Instead, you are ranting about the additional two districts and consultative processes which is a done deal. Atleast, Bio gave a cogent reason (economical) for the creation of the two districts. In 2016, falaba and karene Districts were created by the APC to give undue advantage on its grip on power over the opposition, the slpp by then. Mr Dumbeh secretary General that was electoral jerrymandering.
