Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma, Deputy Leader 2 of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party in Parliament, shed light on the prevailing challenges within the Sierra Leonean judiciary.

Notably, he expressed concerns about the eroding trust not only among political parties but also extending to businesses and ordinary citizens.

During his remarks, Hon. Koroma emphasized the widespread distrust in the judicial system, leading many to opt for out-of-court settlements or alternative mechanisms to resolve disputes. He underscored the diminishing confidence in the court’s ability to deliver fair judgments.

Addressing the appointment of Hon. Abdulai Banguara’to the Supreme Court, Hon. Koroma praised Banguara’s reputation for balanced decisions, straightforwardness, and admired qualities displayed during his tenure at the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC).

Reflecting on the potential for change, Hon. Koroma expressed hope that figures like Hon. Bangura, with a commendable track record, could instigate positive transformations in the judiciary. He also acknowledged the acting Chief Justice’s proven track record, anticipating a similar impact on fostering change.

In a pointed statement, Hon. Koroma emphasized that appointees should recognize their responsibility to serve Sierra Leone’s people, transcending political affiliations. He urged Hon. Bangura to uphold his esteemed reputation from the PPRC, contributing to a collective effort among capable individuals in the judiciary to bring about meaningful change.
