Dr. Kaifala Marah, senior member of main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), has donated hundreds of bags of rice and sugar to both Muslim and Christian party members in the country’s South-South-East regions during the holy months of Ramadan and Lent.

Marah was welcomed by the party leadership on his visit to Kaliahun, who expressed their appreciation for his continued dedication to the party. Dr. Marah addressed the audience and talked about the oneness of Sierra Leone’s religious communities, pointing out that both Christians and Muslims share a commitment to peace and compassion, which are essential principles of the Ramadan and Lent seasons.

Dr. Marah also expressed concerns about the country’s current economic crisis, which he regarded as much more severe than when the APC was in power. He said that Kailahun has seen limited development since the country’s independence, with the road from Kenema to Kailahun and a water project being among the few benefits delivered during the tenure of previous President Ernest Bai Koroma.

“The country is at a crossroads,” Dr. Marah declared asking APC members to work to reclaim power in the 2028 elections. He stated the benefits of loyalty in politics, showing his commitment to the party despite losing two elections for the flagbearer.

“I have contested twice for the flagbearer of the party, but I didn’t win, but I stayed, and that is party loyalty; I have always offered my best for the party.” He said

Dr. Marah also talked about the importance of strong leadership, saying that the country’s current problems are the product of compromised leadership. He advocated for a reform in political culture, stating the importance of strategic planning ahead of the 2028 election.

“This is the time to close ranks if we are to win. Election preparedness should be taken seriously from the ward level, constituency, district, regional, and national. With such a level of seriousness and commitment, we will win. Let’s begin to ask a serious question: how do we win elections?” He said.

In Kenema, Dr. Marah continued to advocate for serious electoral preparations and increased party cohesion. He challenged the APC to approach the next election with the same seriousness and determination that contributed to their previous victories.

Dr. Marah also reflected on his own term as Minister of Finance, noting his efforts to stabilize the exchange rate, establish a single treasury account, and oversee important economic growth.

In Bo, while making another donation, Dr. Marah reminded party members of the critical need of strategic thinking.

“If you think the country is going the right way, you are dreaming.” We should be thinking of putting a strategy in place for us to come back to power.” He said.

Dr. Marah also complimented former President Ernest Bai Koroma for his important achievements to the country, claiming that growth momentum stalled following his tenure.

Dr. Marah ended his speech by inviting party officials and stakeholders in the South-East to judge him on his leadership, loyalty, and commitment to the APC’s objectives.
