The Deputy Leader 2 of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) in Parliament, Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma from Tonkolili District has described President Julius Maada Bio promises as unfulfilled.

Koroma made this statement while lauding the Opposition Whip on his statement decrying the President for making what he described as several fallacious promises in his Manifesto during his party’s campaign periods.

The two MPs made their submissions on Friday 8th November 2024 in the Camber of Parliament.

The Opposition Leader said they are not in the Well to make the President feel happy about them but to make him work in line with legislators’ mandates as enshrined in the 1991 constitution of Sierra Leone.

According to Koroma, the hospital and the girl’s school in Port Loko, which was claimed to have been constructed by the SLPP,
were not built by the Bio’s Administration but rather by the Mercury’s International as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility to that part of the country.

Hon. Koroma noted that the prices on food and other commodities had unprecedentedly skyrocketed.

He mentioned that even the costs of eggs had gone up exponentially in the country. The MP also pegged his debate on the Feed Salone project and considered the Feed Salone to be a fallacious one and a gimmick to cover up Bio’s promise made in his 2019 Presidential Speech that he would ensure food sufficiency in the country. He said the President had failed to allocate 10% of the National Budget to the Agriculture Ministry.

He said he is in support of the President’s National Calls for Unity, adding, but the President had failed to involve the Private Sector in the Energy Sector.

He acknowledged that the country has bigger debts, astronomical inflation, and the highest exchange rate. He called on the Government to boost the country’s finance reserve as the World Bank had warned of the country’s inimical reserve in national finance.

He also reminded the House of the high cost by Mobile Network tariffs to subscribers across all the country. He questioned the Government especially on the lack of action to seek the interests of the citizens.

He however underscored the President’s quest to boosting the energy sector. But he said the President had not done enough to electrify the country. Hon. Aaron Koroma decried the President’s of his many travels, considering it a waste of the State’s resources.

He concluded by saying the President flying syndrome is not just a complete waste of State resources but that his travels could cause inflation to persist as it is coupled with hardship for the poor in the nation.

He said the condition of services for teachers and other public workers are very appalling.

Most Sierra Leoneans are concerned about the president several travels to overseas, causing a waste of monies that could have been used to fix home many issues affecting citizens.
