The leader of the opposition in Parliament, Abdul Kargbo, a senior representative of the Sierra Leonean delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament, delivered a robust and detailed presentation, highlighting the critical political and security challenges currently facing the nation.
Speaking before the ECOWAS Parliament, Hon Abdul Kargbo briefed Parliament on the incident surrounding Sierra Leone and Guinea. He stated that the Sierra Leonean personnel were asked to sit on the floor, and they were recorded by civilians, according to him, which is totally unacceptable.
He presented the cause of the APC Parliament: “There is also another deterioration in the democracy in Sierra Leone.” He stated.
Hon. Abdul Kargbo further explained that, after the election, the opposition did not take their seat in governance; this was due to the election results being discredited, but he said that through the intervention of ECOWAS, AU, and the Security Council, they took their seat in parliament.
He further added that the condition was that there were going to be reforms; the reforms were put in place by a tripartite committee. “The tripartite committee had a delegation from the government, the opposition, and the international community. That committee came up with eight recommendations, and one of the recommendations was to ensure that they design a way in which the commissioners are appointed, instead of being directly appointed by the president,” He explained.
He concluded by proposing to the ECOWAS Parliament for a fact-finding mission because the opposition has drawn from governance, and both parties must be active in governance.
