An armed police officer from the Operational Support Division (OSD) has been seen verbally attacking a journalist who was capturing events in the aftermath of the All People’s Congress (APC) protest at Brookfields.

“When I’m working, I don’t want (to see) the press.

“You don’t report and video the truth,” the OSD officer said.

The planned “peaceful protest” has led to the death of at least one APC supporter at their party headquarters in Freetown.

Early on Wednesday morning police barricades were placed on entrances that lead to the party office.

Videos online have also shown protests ongoing in the northern cities of Makeni, Lunsar and Magburaka.

Meanwhile, other parts of the country remain relatively calm.

The main opposition party are protesting due to accusations of irregularities by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

The APC stated in a press statement on Tuesday afternoon informing the police of their intention for a “peaceful protest” because they felt that their demands with regards the 72-hour ultimatum issued by their Presidential Candidate, Samura Kamara have not been met.

Sierra Leone is due to go to the polls on Saturday and political tension between the ruling SLPP and main opposition APC is already high.

Both parties have reported attacks on their supporters and properties with the most recent being the burning down of the APC party office in SLPP stronghold and second city, Bo.
