The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Continental Secretariat has extended an invitation to Mr. Mohamed Sheshu Sheriff, the esteemed Head of APRM National Secretariats, Republic of Sierra Leone, and Chairperson of the National Secretariats Coordinating Committee, to attend and contribute significantly to the 6th Annual APRM Methodology Forum.
The event, themed “Enhancing Effectiveness of National Structures on delivery of APRM Mandate,” is scheduled to take place from May 20th to 21st, 2024, in South Africa.
The forum is set to address the pressing issue of the limited visibility of National Structures among a diverse group of stakeholders, including citizens, public institutions, the private sector, media, academia, civil society, and developmental partners. It will also delve into challenges related to human and financial capacity, such as inadequate planning tools and processes, limited coordination between the Continental Secretariat and National Structures, and lack of coherence.
Mr. Sheriff’s role as the keynote speaker underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to enhancing governance and promoting the APRM’s objectives. His insights are particularly valuable as the country has made significant strides in governance reforms and citizen engagement. The forum presents an opportunity for Sierra Leone to share its experiences, learn from others, and further strengthen its governance structures.
The retreat aims to analyze the political, policy, strategic, and operational implications of these challenges and generate actionable recommendations. Constructive debates will be encouraged within regional, continental, and global political economy contexts, fostering a collaborative environment for progress.
In addition to his keynote address, Mr. Sheriff will actively participate in the APRM Press Briefing and provide Closing Remarks, reinforcing Sierra Leone’s pivotal role in the APRM process. His participation is a testament to the country’s dedication to the APRM’s principles and its efforts to ensure that the Mechanism’s mandate is effectively delivered at both national and continental levels.
The outcomes of the 6th Annual APRM Methodology Forum are expected to resonate across the continent, influencing policy and practice in governance. Sierra Leone’s involvement in this critical dialogue highlights its position as a leader in the APRM community and its unwavering pursuit of excellence in governance.
