Residents of Bo city and the immediate environs have intimated the Global Times that Sierra Leone Police (SLP) is doing either very little or nothing at all to end the current spate of armed robbery in the entire district.

According to sources, Bo is no longer safe as armed robbers continue to terrorize peaceful residents in that part of the country almost on a daily basis at night.

Sources also disclosed that the robbers are mostly armed with guns and live bullets as well as cutlasses. It was further disclosed that during their diabolic and deadly night mission, armed robbers have been raping women as well. This urgly situation is still ongoing as residents are now in perpetual fear especially at night.

Sources maintined that police personels attached to the Operational Security Division (OSD) are not well equipped to do their night patrol effectively. A police Constable lamented that not all of them were given weapons to go in search of armed robbers. He admitted that there were times when two weapons were given to four patrol officers and that they were taking risk in performing national duty. He said that enough weapons are in the armory store but that those in control were holding on to them.

A senior police officer in Bo has confirmed on the increase and harrasment of armed robbers in that part of the country.

The senior officer noted that the district lacks enough personnel to meet the demand of the population. “Bo is getting larger on a daily basis and there is need to recruit more police ”, he suggested.
