Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, has categorically denied that recent decisions to close various legal matters were influenced by external directives.

In an interview on AYV, Sesay emphasized that his actions were entirely independent, stating that the dismissal of 13 cases during his tenure was based solely on legal merit rather than political pressure.

“I have had to discontinue 13 cases, and none of these cases had anything to do with the presidency,” Sesay stated. “Some involved criminal conduct against regular individuals, but after reviewing the evidence, assessing the amount of work required, and considering the perspectives of the victims or complainants, I made the decision to discontinue these matters.”

The Attorney General further explained that his office carefully considers the impact on victims and complainants before making such decisions. “The impact on the victim or complainant is different from how it may be perceived,” he said. “That is why we choose to discontinue certain proceedings.”

Sesay also announced that, in addition to the well-known Hawa Hunt case, two other cases will be discontinued. He stressed that these decisions were made after a thorough assessment of the evidence and circumstances in each case.

He reiterated that his role as Attorney General is to uphold the law with fairness and without external influence.
