The Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) has announced the submission of the Auditor-General’s 2023 Annual Report to Parliament.

The report, covering the financial year ending 31st December 2023, was officially presented on Monday, 9th December 2024.

In a press release, ASSL noted that the report will be made publicly accessible on its website, www.auditservice.gov.sl, after it has been tabled in Parliament.

The submission of the report aligns with Section 119(2) of Sierra Leone’s 1991 Constitution, which mandates the Auditor-General to audit the Public Accounts of Sierra Leone and all public offices, including courts, central and local government administrations, universities, public institutions, and statutory corporations funded wholly or partly by public funds.

Section 119(4) of the Constitution further requires the Auditor-General to submit the audit report to Parliament within twelve months of the financial year’s end. The report highlights any irregularities in the audited accounts and other matters deemed necessary for Parliament’s attention.

The Audit Service Sierra Leone reaffirmed its commitment to promoting excellence and accountability in public institutions, stating, “The ASSL will continue to be a leading audit organisation promoting transparency and ensuring the prudent management of public resources.”

The release of the 2023 Annual Report is expected to provide critical insights into the financial management and governance of Sierra Leone’s public institutions. It will serve as a valuable tool for strengthening accountability and ensuring the efficient use of public funds.
