Sierra Leone’s African Young Voice (AYV) Media has engaged the country’s Bank Governor, Prof. Kelfala Kallon, on issues surrounding the shortage of the New Leones and the new Cash Management Policy.
The cash Management policy was introduced due to the huge amount of disbursement within two weeks
In the discussion with Amadu Lamrana Bah, Prof. Kallon emphasized that there is no shortage of money in the system and explained the Reasons for the economic restrictions.
According to him, the cash Management policy was to be introduced the day the new leones was launched but he decided to wait and see how the people will react to the new leones before announcing the policy.
“We have enough cash in the system, we created enough money to serve this economy if we go by historical patterns for five years. So there is no shortage of money in the system. What we see, this huge amount of disbursement within two weeks, same to tell us that something is going on. So when we got this data coming in, we said oh we have to announce this policy that we had already designed.” Said the Bank Governor.
The discussion continued with controversial questions from Amadu Lamrana Bah to which the Governor gave clear responses.
